The first site we have visited is the Loominous Rugs store located on N Main St in Providence. The store was formerly Fain’s Fine Carpet and Rugs for almost 80 years and the Fain family owned it. It was built in the 1930s and definitely portrays an Art Deco building, which was popular at the time. It has maintained its original style and really stands out on N Main St. The main focus of the photos was the storefront in general. It has a majority red and black color scheme with classic Art Deco shapes and designs intertwined. The door to enter has become our favorite feature because of the arching bared handles with the bared design hovering over it. The storefront resembles that of a 1940s-50s diner with its unique formatting and layout of shapes.
Henry Bowen Anthony Fountain
Lippitt Memorial Park
Hope Street Providence, Rhode Island 02906
We visited the Henry Bowen Anthony Fountain located in Lippitt Memorial Park in Providence, Rhode Island. The fountain acts as the main focus point for the park as it provides a great centerpiece. The fountain was constructed in 1940 in memory of former native Rhode Island State Senator Henry Bowen Anthony. It was built as a part of the Works Progress Administration that was instituted under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. As a sign of its importance to the architectural community, in 2009 the Champlin Foundations awarded over $58,000 dollars to restore the granite on it and preserve the Art Deco structure. The fountain features a beam in the middle that resembles iron beams of a building in construction. This fits the industrial times that Art Deco flourished in and represented a new way styling.
