Ever wished the “Great Gatsby” world was a reality?
Well, the Providence College Development of Northern Architecture class will show how real this world is during a photography exhibition. Students in the class have been studying Art Deco and Machine Age (1020s-1940s) architecture. Their exhibition intends to create awareness about the prevalence of these incredibly singular and unparalleled styles. Between the 1920s to the 1940s, Rhode Island constructed many beautiful Art Deco edifices with Machine Age motifs and breathtaking geometric shapes. The class is co- taught by Dr. Ann Norton, professor of History of Architecture and Design, and Dr. Eric Sung, professor of Photography. The students will display their photographs and discuss the uniqueness and flamboyancy of these frequently unnoticed, yet common, architectural styles.
